In her rhythm, conversations on slow living and conscious motherhood - Part 1

Welcome to 'In her rhythm; conversations on slow living and conscious motherhood.

Mama holding her baby

I recently invited some of the Mamas who I admire, and who inspire me, to participate in a series of conversations where they share how they are embracing slow living, mindful parenting, and sustainable choices in their everyday lives.

As more families seek natural, organic baby products and yearn to raise their children in alignment with nature and intuition, this series shines a light on real women navigating motherhood with intention, warmth, and integrity.

Each story offers insight into how conscious mothers are choosing ethically made, eco-friendly essentials and weaving slow values into family life; from the products they buy to the rhythms they follow. We’ll talk about their motherhood journey, what they love most about it, their favourite natural essentials, how they incorporate values of sustainability into their lives, and what it means to nurture little ones while nurturing themselves.

Whether you're just beginning your parenting journey or are deep in the trenches of toddlerhood, we hope these reflections bring you reassurance, inspiration, and a gentle reminder: you’re not alone.

In my first conversation, I chat with Tif Khakdoust, Mother to Josie, you can follow her journey of motherhood and sustainable living over on Instagram here. I'm so grateful to you Tif, for taking the time to chat with me and for your support. I hope that you will enjoy this conversation.

1) What do you love most about being a Mother?

When Josie wakes up in the morning, I’m the first thing she sees when her eyes open and I watch her face change from a sleepy little expression to a huge open mouth grin when she locks eyes with me. The fact that I am her safe space, her source of nourishment, her comfort and her joy, gives me more purpose here on earth than I could ever hope for.

2) What do you wish you had known before you became a Mother?

I wish I had known the true meeting of a village. To have a community of likeminded mothers for support postpartum and to raise my kids together with is all I dream of these days. I have a lot of acquaintances but only a few mothers who I really see eye to eye with & have developed a deep bond with over the years. I wish I would have prioritized finding my core friendships beforehand.

3) Has anything surprised you about being a Mother?

People assume you’re struggling as a new parent. The comments I get are usually along the lines of “hang in there, it gets better” and it makes me sad to think that people find motherhood anything but absolutely beautiful. Sure, there are hard time and adjustments to be made but I have never felt more alive, more joyful, more loving, more passionate, more myself.

4) As a Mother, it can be difficult to find time for you! What ways do you practice self care?

I wake up a few hours before Josie so I can make sure I get a long shower in, gua sha and tidy up the house first thing in the morning. One thing that really changes mine & Josie’s day is a daily neighborhood walk. I can get stuck inside all day if I don’t make it a goal to get out into the sunshine and fresh air.

5) What natural essentials could you not live without?

For skincare, Summer Solace Tallow & Golden Secrets youth oil. My health really starts with my diet so I’d also say quality organic meat, organs and raw milk.

6) How do you incorporate values of sustainability and slow living into your daily life?

I try to be really present with my daughter & not let technology control my life because it takes us out of the moment & hurries our minds, so when I can choose an analog alternative to keep me off my phone, I do: film camera, notepad & pen, paper calendar. I also live a minimalist lifestyle which I think is the most sustainable option. Buying less but buying organic/quality that will last generations.

7) Finally, what is your favourite gooseberry fool piece?

The silk sweater and the sudha hat in cream are my go to’s for Josie!
