Sustainability

Gooseberry Fool is underpinned by sustainable values. A desire to ensure that the pieces created are produced slowly, consciously and with integrity. Being aware and taking responsibility for creating well made, long lasting pieces which can be treasured and passed down to siblings and friends, to be loved again. I am wanting to encourage people to think about the purchases they make...What is their provenance? How are they made? Who makes them? What is the raw material? How is it processed?

There is no change of product lines each season, instead, there is a focus on producing timeless classics that don’t go out of style. Slow fashion benefits our earth, our children, and our artisans.

We live on a planet with finite resources, where the impact of our actions is at a point where the earth is in crisis. Our oceans and waterways are polluted, areas of land are being deforested at an alarming rate, our over consumption is leading to landfill sites being piled high with waste, and the rise of fast fashion has highlighted the appalling ways in which workers are treated. As a Mum of four children, I want to ensure that I am treading as lightly as I can through life's journey, and doing right by the planet, in the decisions I make, not only demonstrating this in our personal life, but in business as well, working towards minimising impact on our beautiful planet.

This is shown in the materials and dyes used, packaging chosen, and the timeless design of products to encourage pieces to be passed on. Both the yarn and the vests and sleepsuits are GOTS certified cotton sourced from India. (Definition of GOTS: Global Organic Textile Standard - An internationally recognised processing standard for textile production, it includes ecological and social criteria.)
