The best selling and award winning Elsie Blanket ~ But why the name?

Image shows a picture of grandma elsie and text about the blanket
My Grandma Elsie was a wonderful woman who we all loved dearly. Saturday teatimes were spent at her and Grandpa's house where she would have lovingly prepared a spread for all the family. Breaded ham sandwiches, with a little pot of homemade mustard and tiny spoon on the table to add to your sandwich. Cheeses and other cold meats would be piled high onto platters; but the thing we all looked forward to the most, the cake stand stacked with homemade cakes. Her delicious Be-Ro chocolate cake (which is now my children's favourite), ginger cake and the lightest butterfly cupcakes. All served with a pot of tea! Core memories of my upbringing and time spent with my cousins, aunts and uncles.
You see, Grandma was a creative. Showing her love of making through her baking, gardening, piano playing and her crochet. She was the most amazing crocheter, and sadly, despite her trying to teach me, I didn't pick it up until after she had died. I often think how much I would love to show her about what I am doing now! I recall her crocheting me a pram style jacket with matching hat...I must find the photo of this! She crocheted her three daughter the most incredible and detailed bedspreads when they got married, they must have taken her hours and hours.
So when I started crocheting and looked through some of her samples shown in the picture below, I knew her inspiration would produce something special, and that something special is the Elsie Blanket. Each square lovingly created and based on her design. It's truly special to me, and I hope will become something truly special to you too!
